Tashobya Assumes NCS Chairmanship with Cecilia Anyakoit, Stephen Kiprotich among the tested and proven front liners to steer the sports body.

The Minister of state for Education and sports in-charge of sports has today sworn in a7 member committee that he appointed as the new board of the National council of sports in line with section 32(2) of the National sports Act of 2023.

The sworn in members include; Ambrose Tashobya who was and is the new Chairperson, Cecilia Anyakoit who was a former council member and chairperson of technical committee who was of recent also appointed by world netball as a member of the Normalisation committee, Stephen Kiprotich Uganda’s celebrated athletics medallist, Hajji. Zubairi Galiwango with a wealth of Knowledge in sports governance, Evelyn Gloria Piloya with a wealth of Knowledge from the disability world, Jacqueline Basemera a representative from the ministry responsible for sports and Anyii Omara Moses representative of the private sector.

Hon.Peter Ogwang State Min.for Education in-charge of sports addressing members

While addressing the newly inaugurated board Minister Ogwang hailed the outgone team for laying afoundation from which government is starting the build up of asporty nation that all citizens wish to see, he emphasised the need for the sworn in team to deliver positive results in bid to raise the country’s sports ranking from the current position. He further reiterated the need to foster proper accountability and transparency in the daily executions to enhance value for money and to boost trust and confidence from rest of the stake holders.

Ambrose Tashobya upon receiving tools of power for the new term echoed the achievements of the outgoing team against their mandate from which he pledged his total commitment towards delivering on the new targets as per the country’s sports agenda.

Unlike the out-going board that was made of an 11member committee, the newly sworn in board consists of a7member committee in which the new appointments under peter Ogwang had the reappointment of five members with Jacqueline Basemera and Anyii Omara Moses sworn in as two new faces on the board.

NCS is a legal entity of Government established under the NCS Act of 1964, to among other things; develop, promote and control sports activities in Uganda on behalf of Government, under the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The swearing-in ceremony for the 4year term guided by the new law that was recently ascented by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni therefore signifies the official assumption of duties and responsibilities of the NCS board members of overseeing Uganda’s sports sector with Hon. Ogwangs major focus being infrastructure development, talent identification, athlete welfare, and grassroots sports promotion.

This council working hand in hand with the able-bodied leadership of the NCS’s General Secretary Dr. Benard Patrick Ogwel, Ministry of sports, and other stake holders will ontop of other roles,steer Uganda to the long awaited AFCON 2027 that Uganda shall be co-hosting with Kenya and Tanzania.
